Senior Database Administrator
Job Description Roles & Responsibilities Key Responsibilities 2.1 Database Administration Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and administer Oracle (including Multitenant, RAC, Data Guard, ASM), MS SQL (Always-on), MongoDB, PostgreSQL and MySQL (InnoDB Cluster & ClusterSet) database environments in production, staging, and development. Design and implement high-availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) architectures including Oracle RAC, Oracle Data Guard, GoldenGate replication, MS SQL (Always-on) , PostgreSQL replication, MongoDB replica sets / sharded clusters and MySQL InnoDB Cluster. Perform logical and physical backup and recovery operations using RMAN, Data Pump, mongodump/mongorestore, mysqldump, and pg_dump, and validate recovery procedures on a regular schedule. Conduct performance tuning and troubleshooting at all levels including SQL/query optimization, indexing strategies, storage I/O, memory, network, and OS-level diagnostics. Plan and execute large-scale database upgrades, migrations, and cross-platform conversions with minimal downtime. Implement and enforce database security: user management, role-based access control, auditing, TDE encryption, data masking, and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. Develop and maintain automation scripts (Shell, Python, PL/SQL) for routine database operations, monitoring, and housekeeping tasks. 2.2 Middleware Administration Install, configure, and administer Oracle WebLogic Server including domain creation, managed servers, clustering, load balancing, and JVM tuning. Administer Oracle SOA Suite and Oracle Service Bus (OSB) including composite deployment, troubleshooting, dehydration store management, and integration support. Manage Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) 12c and Oracle Analytics Server (OAS): installation, configuration, RPD deployment, security, and performance optimization. Install, configure, and support Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) for ETL workloads, including agent management, repository administration, and scenario execution. Deploy and manage Oracle Forms & Reports and other Java-based applications on WebLogic. Apply patches, security updates, and CPU/PSU bundles to all middleware components in line with vendor recommendations and change-management processes. Install, configure, and administer Apache products (Kafka, Spark, Tomcat) including clustering, load balancing, and JVM tuning. 2.3 Operating System & Infrastructure Strong working knowledge of Linux/Unix (Oracle Linux, RHEL, CentOS) and Windows Server environments hosting database and middleware workloads. Proficiency in bash and PowerShell scripting for automation, monitoring, log analysis, and routine maintenance. Solid understanding of storage (NFS, ASM, SAN), networking, kernel parameters, file systems, and OS-level security hardening concepts. Familiarity with capacity planning, server provisioning, and OS-level upgrades, with the ability to coordinate effectively with infrastructure and virtualization teams. Hands-on experience working with containerized environments, including Docker (and exposure to Kubernetes / OpenShift is a plus) for deploying, running, and managing database and middleware workloads. 2.4 Monitoring, Operations & Support Implement and maintain proactive monitoring frameworks using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM Cloud Control), Grafana, Prometheus, or equivalent tools. Respond to production incidents, perform root-cause analysis (RCA), and deliver post-incident reports with corrective and preventive actions. Serve as the primary technical contact for database and middleware vendors, coordinating SLAs, escalations, support tickets, and product renewals. Maintain detailed technical documentation, runbooks, architecture diagrams, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Provide 24/7 on-call support on a rotational basis for critical production systems. Collaborate with application, security, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to align database and middleware operations with organizational standards and regulatory requirements. Desired Candidate Profile Required Qualifications & Experience 3.1 Education Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related discipline. 3.2 Experience Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator, Middleware Administrator, or in a combined DBA/Middleware role within an enterprise environment. Proven experience administering Oracle Database (12c/19c/21c) in production, including RAC, Data Guard, GoldenGate, and Multitenant architectures. Demonstrable experience with MongoDB, MySQL, and PostgreSQL in HA / clustered configurations. Proven experience administering Oracle Fusion Middleware components: WebLogic, SOA Suite, OSB, OBIEE / OAS, and ODI. Solid experience operating in Linux/Unix and Windows Server environments. Experience supporting mission-critical, 24/7 production systems, ideally within government, telecom, banking, or large enterprise sectors. 3.3 Technical Skills Databases: Oracle 12c/19c/21c, MongoDB, MySQL 8.0, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server (a plus), Redis (a plus). HA / DR: Oracle RAC, Data Guard, GoldenGate, ASM, MySQL InnoDB Cluster / ClusterSet, MongoDB Replica Sets & Sharding. Middleware: Oracle WebLogic 12c/14c, SOA Suite, OSB, OBIEE 12c, OAS, ODI, Forms & Reports. Tools: Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), TOAD, SQL Developer, RMAN, Data Pump, Compass, MongoDB Atlas. Operating Systems: Oracle Linux, RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, Windows Server. Scripting: Shell / Bash, PL/SQL, Python, PowerShell. Backup & Recovery: RMAN, Data Pump, mongodump, mysqldump, pg_dump, third-party backup solutions. Containerization: Docker (required); Kubernetes / OpenShift (a plus). 3.4 Preferred Certifications Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional (OCP) – 19c or higher. Oracle WebLogic Server Administrator Certified Associate / Professional. Oracle MySQL Database Administrator Certified Professional. MongoDB Certified DBA Associate. Oracle Autonomous Database Cloud Specialist (a plus). Professional Scrum Master (PSM I) or equivalent Agile certification (a plus). 3.5 Soft Skills & Competencies Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (Arabic is a plus). Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in cross-functional teams. Strong ownership mindset, proactive attitude, and ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure. Customer-focused approach with experience working directly with internal and external stakeholders. Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with emerging database and middleware technologies.
