Job Description Roles & Responsibilities Phlebotomist Roles & Responsibilities / Job Description A Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood samples from patients for laboratory testing, blood donation, transfusion, or research purposes while ensuring patient safety and comfort. Key Roles & Responsibilities Collect blood samples from patients using venipuncture and capillary techniques. Verify patient identity and ensure correct labeling of specimens. Maintain proper hygiene, infection control, and safety protocols during procedures. Prepare patients before blood collection and explain procedures clearly. Handle, store, and transport specimens according to laboratory standards. Maintain accurate patient records and documentation. Monitor patients for adverse reactions during or after blood collection. Ensure all equipment and supplies are clean, sterilized, and properly maintained. Coordinate with laboratory staff, nurses, and doctors regarding sample requirements. Follow hospital, clinic, and laboratory policies and quality standards. Dispose of biomedical waste safely according to regulations. Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
