Mechanical Technician – Flexible Packaging
Job Description Roles & Responsibilities Perform preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance on flexible packaging machinery. Dismantle, inspect, repair, refurbish, and refit mechanical equipment and machine components. Install, align, level, and commission new production machines and equipment. Troubleshoot and rectify mechanical failures in extrusion, printing, lamination, slitting, rewinding, pouch-making, and bag-making machines. Carry out maintenance and repairs on extrusion lines, including extruders, dies, chill rolls, gearboxes, screw & barrel assemblies, and associated equipment. Perform plumbing works, including installation and maintenance of water, cooling, compressed air, pneumatic, hydraulic, and utility piping systems. Repair and replace bearings, shafts, couplings, seals, pumps, valves, motors, conveyors, rollers, and gearboxes. Read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&ID diagrams, equipment manuals, and technical documentation. Perform machine alignment, calibration, lubrication, and precision fitting. Weld, fabricate, cut, and modify machine parts when required. Conduct root cause analysis of recurring mechanical failures and implement corrective actions. Coordinate with production teams to minimize downtime and maximize machine efficiency. Maintain maintenance records, spare parts inventory, and daily work reports. Ensure compliance with safety standards, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and company policies. Support machine relocation, installation, dismantling, and commissioning projects. Maintain good housekeeping standards within the workshop and production areas. Desired Candidate Profile Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Mechanical Technician in the Flexible Packaging Industry. Strong experience in machine dismantling, reassembly, installation, and alignment. Hands-on knowledge of extrusion machines, flexible packaging production equipment, and utility systems. Experience in plumbing, pneumatic, hydraulic, compressed air, chilled water, and cooling systems. Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Experience in preventive and corrective maintenance. Ability to use precision measuring instruments and mechanical tools. Basic welding and fabrication skills are an advantage. Ability to read engineering drawings and maintenance manuals. Good communication and teamwork skills. Willingness to work shifts and respond to emergency breakdowns.
