Mid-Level Backend Engineer

Job Purpose: The Mid-Level Backend Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and optimizing backend services and APIs that power Starlinks technology platforms. The role ensures the delivery of high-performance, scalable, secure, and maintainable backend systems while contributing to technical implementation, code quality, and continuous improvement. Responsibilities

• Backend Development & System Design, develop, and maintain backend services, microservices, APIs, and integrations in alignment with established architectural standards
• Write clean, scalable, testable, and efficient code using modern backend frameworks and technologies
• Contribute to the implementation and improvement of backend system components to support performance, scalability, and fault tolerance
• Ensure backend services meet performance, availability, and reliability requirements
• Develop and maintain database schemas, optimize queries, and ensure efficient data storage and retrieval
• Identify and resolve technical issues affecting backend functionality, performance, and maintainability
• Code Quality, Testing & SDLC Compliance Maintain high coding standards and follow secure coding practices aligned with OWASP and industry best practices
• Ensure adherence to Agile SDLC practices, including CI/CD, branching strategies, code reviews, and unit and integration testing
• Conduct and participate in peer code reviews to ensure code quality, consistency, and maintainability
• Develop and maintain automated test suites to validate features and prevent regressions
• Ensure backend services meet QA and UAT quality standards with minimal revisions
• Identify and address code defects, technical debt, and opportunities for code improvement
• API Development, Integrations & Performance Optimization Build, maintain, and optimize RESTful APIs, gRPC endpoints, and event-driven messaging-based services
• Integrate backend systems with internal platforms, external services, and cloud-based components
• Implement caching, asynchronous processing, and performance tuning using tools such as Redis and messaging queues such as RabbitMQ or Azure Service Bus
• Conduct profiling, monitoring, and debugging to improve system performance and reliability
• Ensure backward compatibility and proper API versioning during system updates
• Implement appropriate authentication, authorization, input validation, and API security controls
• Collaboration, Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement Work closely with frontend engineers, DevOps, QA, and Solution Architects to deliver seamless end-to-end solutions
• Translate functional requirements into technical implementations in accordance with established specifications and design standards
• Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, code reviews, and technical discussions
• Identify opportunities to improve existing code, refactor components, and enhance backend frameworks and technologies
• Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot technical challenges and implement effective solutions
• Maintain clear technical documentation for backend services, APIs, integrations, and implemented functionalities
• Additional Responsibilities Contribute to technical design discussions and the implementation of backend solutions
• Support production deployments, issue triage, troubleshooting, and incident resolution
• Participate in scalability improvements, system migrations, and modernization initiatives
• Follow established monitoring, logging, error-handling, and deployment practices
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the line manager

Desired Candidate Profile

Requirements Bachelor s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field Required Additional backend development or cloud certifications Preferred Minimum 3 5 years of hands-on backend development experience Required Proven experience in backend frameworks and languages such as C#, .NET Core, ASP.NET, and Entity Framework. Strong experience with: PostgreSQL, LINQ, database design, and query optimization RESTful APIs and gRPC Microservices and event-driven architectures Caching tools: Redis or equivalent Messaging queues: RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus Containerization: Docker Experience working with Kubernetes, CI/CD, and cloud-native development is preferred.
