Rig and piling mechanic

Job Description Roles & Responsibilities Scheduled servicing. Services the plant, vehicles and equipment the Company holds as each falls due, to the interval its manufacturer sets. Changes oils, filters, fluids and wear items, and reports what a service finds beyond its scope. Fault diagnosis and repair. Works a reported fault back to its cause rather than its symptom, repairs it, and tests the machine under load before it returns to work. Attends breakdowns in the yard and on site. Hydraulic, engine and transmission work. Diagnoses and repairs hydraulic pumps, motors, valves, rams and hoses, and pressure-tests the system. Services and overhauls diesel engines and their fuel and cooling systems. Repairs transmissions, final drives, axles and brakes. Parts and consumables. Requests the parts a job needs against the machine they are for, checks each against that machine's specification, and rejects what does not meet it. Fits to the manufacturer's torque and tolerance, and records what was fitted. Workshop safety and housekeeping. Isolates a machine before working on it, props a raised load on rated stands, refits guards, and controls hot work. Disposes of waste oil, filters and chemicals properly, and keeps the bench and the workshop's tools in serviceable, calibrated condition. The record of the work. Writes up each job against the machine: the fault found, the work carried out, the parts fitted, and the hours or mileage at the time. Says where a machine falls short of the standard set for it. Desired Candidate Profile Possesses a vocational degree or certification in Heavy Equipment Mechanics or a related field. Holds a valid relevant trade certification (e.g., Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician). Has a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing drilling rigs and piling equipment. Demonstrates proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and heavy-duty transmissions.
