Role summary The Senior Manager Distribution Centre is accountable for the safe, reliable and cost-effective performance of assigned distribution centre operations. The role translates fulfilment strategy and customer commitments into disciplined daily execution across inbound, storage, inventory control, value-added services and outbound activities, as applicable. It leads people, capacity, assets and operational controls to deliver service, productivity, quality and cost targets while protecting employees, stock and the facility. What you'll be doing Operational Leadership and Service Delivery Lead end-to-end daily operations for the assigned distribution centre areas, ensuring safe, accurate and on-time receiving, put-away, storage, replenishment, picking, value-added services, packing and dispatch. Convert volume forecasts, order priorities and customer service commitments into executable shift plans, daily operating rhythms and clear accountabilities. Maintain strong operational control across shifts; identify constraints early, resolve exceptions promptly and escalate material risks with recommended actions. Ensure every stock movement and operational transaction is executed through the approved warehouse management system and standard processes. Planning Resource and Cost Management Develop short- and medium-term capacity plans covering labour, shifts, space, equipment and throughput requirements in line with forecast demand and business priorities. Optimise labour deployment, attendance, overtime and temporary staffing while protecting service levels, employee wellbeing and statutory requirements. Manage controllable operating costs and productivity drivers; identify opportunities to reduce cost per unit without compromising safety, quality or customer experience. Support annual budgeting, workforce planning and business cases for operating expenditure and capital investment within delegated authority. Performance Governance and Continuous Improvement Establish and review daily, weekly and monthly performance routines covering service, throughput, productivity, cost, quality, inventory, safety and people indicators. Validate operational data and performance reports, investigate material variances and ensure corrective actions have clear owners and completion dates. Lead structured problem solving, root-cause analysis and continuous-improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma or equivalent methodologies. Standardise successful improvements through documented processes, training, controls and sustained performance monitoring. Inventory Control and Quality Protect inventory integrity through disciplined stock handling, location control, cycle counting, reconciliation and investigation of discrepancies. Review inventory reports, cycle-count results and adjustment requests; ensure adjustments are evidence-based, authorised and compliant with governance requirements. Reduce picking, packing, receiving and shipping errors through effective quality controls, process adherence and targeted corrective actions. Maintain the Quality Management System and drive compliance with ISO 9001 requirements and internal audit standards. People Leadership and Capability Lead, coach and hold accountable warehouse supervisors and operational teams, creating a high-performance culture built on clear expectations, regular feedback and fair decision-making. Partner with Human Resources on workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations and disciplinary processes. Build technical and leadership capability through role-based training, cross-skilling, succession planning and development opportunities. Monitor engagement, attendance and wellbeing; address emerging workforce risks while maintaining operational continuity. Health Safety Environment and Security Own compliance with applicable health, safety and environmental requirements, including ISO 45001, ISO 14001, emergency procedures and company standards. Promote proactive hazard identification, risk assessment, near-miss reporting and safe systems of work; stop or correct unsafe activities immediately. Ensure incidents are reported, investigated and documented promptly, with corrective and preventive actions completed and verified. Safeguard the facility, inventory, employees and visitors through effective access control, security practices, housekeeping and loss-prevention measures. Desired Candidate Profile Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering or a related discipline. 9-10 years of progressive experience in warehousing, distribution or fulfilment operations, including at least three to five years in a senior leadership role. Demonstrated accountability for a large, multi-shift operation and delivery of measurable improvements in safety, service, productivity, cost and inventory accuracy. Strong working knowledge of warehouse management systems, enterprise resource planning systems, operational reporting and data-led performance management. Sound knowledge of inventory control, labour and capacity planning, quality management, workplace safety and distribution-centre best practices.
