Senior Software Engineer (Java)

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong Java experience to help design, build and improve scalable backend systems. You'll work with Java, Spring Boot, microservices and distributed systems, taking ownership of projects from design through to production. This is an opportunity to work on complex engineering challenges, influence architectural decisions and collaborate with talented engineers, while remaining hands-on with the technology. Responsibilities Design and develop scalable backend applications using Java, Spring Boot and microservices. Build and optimise distributed systems, focusing on performance, security and reliability. Take ownership of projects from architecture and development through to deployment. Develop secure REST APIs and contribute to technical design decisions. Work with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD to support cloud-native applications. Improve system performance, monitoring and observability. Collaborate with and mentor engineers through code reviews and technical discussions. Requirements 8+ years of experience in Java software engineering and distributed systems. Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Security and REST APIs. Experience building and maintaining production microservices. Solid understanding of system design, OOP and design patterns. Experience with SQL databases and Redis. Familiarity with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines. Understanding of application security and observability. Preferred Skills Kafka, RabbitMQ or Cassandra. Terraform, gRPC or Protocol Buffers. JVM performance tuning or reactive Java frameworks. Prometheus, Grafana or OpenTelemetry.
