Senior System Consultant - Contractor
Job Description Roles & Responsibilities Job Purpose: The Senior Systems Consultant is responsible for the design, administration, and continuous improvement of the organization s enterprise infrastructure. The role ensures the availability, security, and performance of Windows and Linux environments, while supporting identity management, backup and recovery, patching, and monitoring operations. The position plays a critical role in maintaining operational stability, enforcing security standards, and driving automation across hybrid IT environments. Core Responsibilities: Identity & Access Management: Administer and maintain enterprise identity platforms including Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID, ensuring secure access, troubleshoot and resolve identity issues, and identity lifecycle management. Patch & Vulnerability Management: Own the end-to-end patch and vulnerability management lifecycle across Windows and Linux environments and work closely with the security team to assess vulnerabilities and perform remediation within agreed SLA. Backup & Recovery operations: Manage backup and recovery solutions ensuring alignment with business RPO and RTO objectives, monitor backups and proactively resolve failures, and conduct regular testing and backup validations. Server Administration: Administer and optimize Windows Server and Linux server environments, diagnose and troubleshooting issues, perform capacity planning, performance tuning and enforce OS configurations and hardening according to security baselines. Exchange Administration: Manage and support Microsoft Exchange (on-premises and/or Exchange Online), including mailbox and mail flow administration, hybrid integration with Microsoft Entra ID, troubleshooting email services, supporting platform maintenance and upgrades, and maintaining operational documentation. Monitoring Systems Health: Implement and maintain monitoring solutions to ensure system health, availability, and proactive issue detection. Security & Compliance: Enforce security controls, respond to system security events and configuration drifts, support audit processes and compliance requirements across infrastructure systems. Incident & Problem Management: Act as an escalation point for critical incidents, leading troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution. Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Security, DevOps, and Application teams to support infrastructure needs. Desired Candidate Profile Qualifications: Educational: Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience). Years Of Experience: 6+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise systems administration Nature of Experience: Advanced administration of Windows Server and Linux distributions (RHEL, Oracle Linux, Ubuntu) in large-scale environments. Expertise in Active Directory services, including Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, identity federation, and directory services troubleshooting. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID, including identity protection, access governance, Conditional Access, MFA, SSO, and hybrid identity synchronization. Proven experience administering Microsoft Exchange (on-premises and/or Exchange Online), including mailbox management, hybrid configurations, and mail flow troubleshooting. Strong knowledge of Windows Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) components and certificate management. Proven experience in backup and disaster recovery operations, ensuring alignment with business continuity requirements. Hands-on experience with patch management and vulnerability remediation processes across mixed environments. Experience in incident management, root cause analysis (RCA), and production support, ensuring timely resolution of critical issues. Exposure to virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V. Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Datadog, PRTG, Nagios). Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, Bash, or Python. Strong knowledge of core infrastructure security principles, including access control, authentication and authorization models, system hardening, secure configuration practices, and Zero Trust security principles. Proven experience operating in security-driven environments, aligning infrastructure with compliance frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, CIS, NCA) and audit requirements. Familiarity with ITIL practices in enterprise service environments. Basic familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP, or OCI) is advantageous. Skills: Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
