Job Description Roles & Responsibilities Job Summary The Civil Surveyor will be responsible for carrying out accurate land, topographic, setting-out, and construction surveys for civil and infrastructure works. The role requires close coordination with project engineers, site teams, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure that all works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, coordinates, levels, dimensions, and project specifications. The Civil Surveyor will be responsible for maintaining accurate survey records, establishing and protecting survey control points, verifying completed works, and immediately identifying and reporting any discrepancies that may affect construction. Key Responsibilities Surveying & Setting Out Carry out setting-out works for buildings, foundations, roads, utilities, drainage, infrastructure, and external works. Establish and maintain survey control points, benchmarks, reference points, grids, coordinates, and levels. Transfer coordinates, elevations, and reference lines from approved drawings to site. Set out excavation boundaries, formation levels, foundations, columns, walls, slabs, roads, kerbs, utilities, and other civil works. Verify dimensions, alignment, levels, slopes, and coordinates before and during construction. Conduct topographic and existing-condition surveys. Perform pre-construction, construction-stage, and final surveys. Construction Verification Verify completed works against approved IFC drawings and specifications. Check foundation locations, levels, dimensions, and orientations before concrete works. Verify road levels, gradients, slopes, and alignments. Check underground utility routes, invert levels, manholes, chambers, and associated infrastructure. Conduct independent checks before critical construction activities. Immediately report discrepancies between actual site conditions and approved drawings. As-Built Surveys Conduct accurate as-built surveys for completed works. Record final coordinates, elevations, dimensions, and locations. Coordinate with draftsmen and engineers for preparation of as-built drawings. Maintain complete survey data required for project handover. Ensure as-built information accurately represents actual site conditions. Survey Equipment Operate Total Stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, Auto Levels, Digital Levels, and other surveying instruments. Perform routine equipment checks and calibration verification. Ensure survey equipment is properly maintained, protected, and stored. Maintain calibration certificates and equipment records. Report defective or inaccurate equipment immediately. Earthworks & Infrastructure Conduct existing ground-level surveys. Establish excavation and filling levels. Monitor formation and finished levels. Assist with earthwork quantity verification. Carry out surveys for roads, parking areas, interlock, kerbstones, drainage, sewerage, water networks, electrical routes, and other infrastructure. Verify slopes and drainage gradients. Documentation & Records Maintain daily survey records and field books. Maintain benchmark and control-point registers. Prepare survey reports and coordinate calculations. Maintain electronic survey data in an organized manner. Ensure proper naming, storage, backup, and traceability of survey files. Maintain records of survey inspections and approvals. Provide survey information required for inspections, measurements, and project documentation. Coordination Coordinate closely with Project Managers, Site Engineers, Civil Engineers, QA/QC Engineers, Planning Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, and Draftsmen. Coordinate survey inspections with consultants and clients where required. Provide accurate survey information to construction teams. Assist engineering teams in resolving coordinate, level, and dimensional discrepancies. Attend site coordination meetings when required. Quality & Accuracy Ensure all survey activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and project requirements. Independently cross-check critical coordinates and levels before construction. Ensure survey tolerances remain within project requirements. Prevent construction errors arising from incorrect setting out. Immediately escalate significant deviations or discrepancies to the responsible engineer or Project Manager. Desired Candidate Profile Qualifications Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, Geomatics, or a related discipline. Relevant professional surveying certification is an advantage. Experience Minimum 01 year of relevant civil/construction surveying experience. UAE or GCC construction experience is preferred. Experience in building, infrastructure, earthworks, roads, utilities, and large-scale construction projects is highly desirable. Experience working with consultants and main contractors is preferred. Technical Skills Total Station operation. GPS/GNSS surveying. Auto Level and Digital Level. Coordinate systems and benchmark establishment. Topographic surveying. Construction setting out. As-built surveying. Earthworks surveying. AutoCAD proficiency. Ability to interpret civil, structural, architectural, and infrastructure drawings. Strong understanding of coordinates, elevations, gradients, and construction tolerances. Basic knowledge of quantity calculations and earthwork measurements. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and standard office applications. Desired Candidate Profile Extremely high attention to accuracy and detail. Strong numerical and analytical ability. Ability to independently verify survey calculations. Good understanding of construction sequencing. Ability to work effectively with engineering and site teams. Strong organizational and record-keeping skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet construction deadlines. Willingness to work across multiple project locations when required. Strong sense of responsibility and accountability for survey accuracy. Key Performance Indicators Accuracy of setting-out activities. Number of survey-related construction errors or reworks. Accuracy and completeness of as-built records. Timely completion of survey requirements. Proper maintenance of benchmarks and control points. Survey equipment calibration and maintenance compliance. Accuracy of levels, coordinates, and dimensional verification. Timely submission of survey documentation. Compliance with approved drawings and project specifications. Any discrepancy, deviation, or potential surveying error that could affect construction quality, cost, programme, or safety must be immediately reported to the responsible Project Manager or Engineer before the affected work proceeds.
