Grid Study Engineer
Job Description Roles & Responsibilities Responsible for the execution or bidding support of grid studies for Open or Combined Cycle Power Stations, Substations, PV Solar, BESS, Wind Farms, Desalination Plants, Industrial Power Systems and other power projects. Responsible for conducting and reviewing Power System Studies required during project development, design and execution stages. Responsible for developing, maintaining and reviewing power system network models and ensuring that project electrical data is correctly incorporated into the study model. Responsible for performing or reviewing Load Flow, Short Circuit, Motor Starting, Voltage Stability, Transient Stability, Dynamic and other applicable power system studies. Responsible for conducting Protection Coordination Studies and providing study results and recommendations for protection system design and relay settings. Responsible for performing or reviewing Load Shedding, Under-Frequency Load Shedding, Under-Voltage Load Shedding and Islanding studies where applicable. Responsible for evaluating Grid Code compliance and identifying technical requirements related to grid connection, generator performance, voltage/frequency control, reactive power, fault ride-through and system stability. Responsible for reviewing the impact of new generating units, renewable energy, BESS and major loads on the existing electrical network. Responsible for reviewing and analyzing short circuit levels, system fault currents, voltage profiles, equipment ratings and network operating conditions. Responsible for coordinating grid study input data with the Owner, Consultant, Utility/Grid Operator, OEMs and other engineering disciplines. Responsible for preparing and reviewing Power System Study Reports, Grid Connection Studies, Technical Assessment Reports and Study Recommendations. Responsible for reviewing technical specifications, grid study requirements and proposals during the bidding process. Responsible for providing technical clarification and responding to Owner, Consultant and Grid Operator comments related to power system studies. Desired Candidate Profile Strong understanding of power system analysis and grid studies for MV/HV/EHV electrical networks. Extensive experience in Load Flow, Short Circuit and Power System Analysis. Experience in Transient Stability, Dynamic Stability and/or EMT studies for conventional generation, renewable energy and BESS projects. Experience in Motor Starting, Voltage Drop, Reactive Power and Voltage Stability studies. Experience in Protection Coordination and Relay Setting Studies, including evaluation of fault currents and protection operating conditions. Experience in Load Shedding, UFLS/UVLS, Islanding and system restoration studies is preferred. Good understanding of Grid Code requirements and grid connection studies, including voltage/frequency requirements, reactive power capability, fault ride-through and generator performance requirements. Experience with Saudi Grid Code / SEC requirements, TRANSCO requirements or other utility/grid operator requirements is preferred. Experience in developing and reviewing electrical network models, including generators, transformers, transmission lines, cables, motors, loads, renewable generators and BESS. Ability to review project SLDs, electrical equipment data, generator parameters, transformer data, cable data and protection information and convert them into appropriate study model inputs. Experience in preparing and reviewing professional Power System Study Reports, calculation notes, technical assessments and recommendations. Experience in coordinating technical interfaces with Owner, Grid Operator, Consultant, OEMs and other engineering disciplines. Ability to quickly assess study results, identify abnormal operating conditions and provide practical engineering recommendations. Experience in reviewing grid study models provided by consultants or third parties and identifying inconsistencies between the study model and project design. Good understanding of international standards and engineering practices, including IEC, IEEE, ANSI and applicable Grid Codes and utility standards.
